Looks like this one is in the very early stages, but certainly, the fact that it’s set up at Sony (the studio behind both “The Social Network” and “Spider-Man”) and is produced by Laura Ziskin (also on “Spider-Man”) could make it a strong possibility for Andrew.
Hollywood seeks to make bank robbers cool again (maybe even with Andrew Garfield?)
Bank-robbery films are a staple of great cinema. Unfortunately, unless you count “The Town” or “Inside Man,” the best of the lot — “Bonnie & Clyde,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” etc. — were made about 50 years ago. But two new films gaining heat in Hollywood seek to revitalize the genre.
“The Robber,” a remake of a well-regarded German movie about a marathon runner who robs banks for sport, has a degree of development momentum at studio Sony. “The Amazing Spider-Man” star Andrew Garfield has watched the original and expressed interest in playing the lead part, said a person familiar with the project who was not authorized to speak about it publicly. (“The Amazing Spider-Man” producer Laura Ziskin is also producing the “Robber” remake.)
An existential inquiry as much as an action movie, Benjamin Heisenberg’s original, which is based on the true story of the German bank robber Johann Rettenberger, avoids a lot of personal detail in favor of a more mysterious character approach. Filmmakers on the American version — producers are currently seeking writers — would likely add a degree of of backstory to make the film more palatable to a mainstream American audience, said the person familiar with the project. A Sony spokesman declined comment.

Sony announced today that the official title of the new Spider-Man movie starring Andrew is “The Amazing Spider-Man”!! And they’ve released the first official picture of Andrew in full, masked costume. Amazing indeed. Could not be more excited if I tried. See the HQ version below!
Andrew has signed on to a new project, and it sounds like another great one with the potential for another amazing performance!
Andrew Garfield taking “Back Roads” with Jennifer Garner
Andrew Garfield is going from webslinging in New York to domestic murder mysteries in Pennsylvania, as he signs on to his first film since being cast as Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s reboot of “Spider-Man”. Variety reports that Garfield will topline “Back Roads”, from the bestselling novel by Tawni O’Dell. Director Adrian Lyne also adapted the screenplay with O’Dell. Variety also reports that Jennifer Garner and Marcia Gay Harden will co-star with Garfield.
The story revolves around the young man Harley Altmyer, played by Garfield, who must look after his three younger sisters after their mother is sent to prison for killing her abusive husband. The sisters are sixteen, twelve and six in age and Variety reports several high profile young actresses are being tested for two of the roles (we assume the aged sixteen and twelve sisters). Garner will play a neighbor who becomes romantically involved with Harley and Harden his court-appointed therapist.
Garfield, probably the young star who skyrocketed the highest in 2010, is busy shooting “Spider-Man” all over the streets of Los Angeles, after beating out the likes of Josh Hutcherson, Jamie Bell and Michael Angarao for the role in July, and was last seen in the Oscar favorite “The Social Network”. Many expected Garfield to land a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Eduardo Saverin in the role, and his exclusion was seen as one of the biggest snubs of the season. He was recently rumored for “Waiting for Robert Capa” opposite Gemma Arterton, but there has been no confirmation or update on that front since December. Production on “Back Roads” is tentatively scheduled for June, which would make this the definitive next role for Garfield, whether “Capa” pans out or not.

Gemma Arterton spilled the beans about a potential new project she says is confirmed and that she will be starring in opposite Andrew. Hmmmm we’ll see, but hope it’s true!
Andrew Garfield and Gemma Arterton to star in Robert Capa biopic?
Thank you, Santa, for Gemma Arterton and her complete inability to keep anything to herself. Becoming somewhat notorious in recent months for speaking out about everything, from which of her films she thinks aren’t very good (“Clash of the Titans”) to meeting with directors for projects that are far from confirmed (“Alien” prequel, among others), Arterton drops another bombshell in her latest interview. Announced quite casually to Total Film upon winning their Hottest Actress award, Arterton states that a biopic of early 20th century wartime photojournalist Robert Capa is in the works (“confirmed” is the word she uses), with Spider-Man Andrew Garfield in the title role and Arterton playing his partner, Gerda Taro, the first female photojournalist to cover war from the front lines.
Though Arterton simply calls it “Capa” to Total Film, the film in question is presumably “Waiting for Robert Capa”, reported last October to be directed by Michael Mann for Columbia Pictures, adapted from “Esperando a Robert Capa”, by Spanish writer Susana Fortes. That was the one and only news to come forth regarding the film until Arterton’s pronouncement this month. There is no word on whether Mann, who is at work on producing and directing HBO series “Luck”, is still attached.
Furthermore, keep in mind that if half of the projects Arterton claim are in the works actually are in the works, she would be putting Tom Hardy to shame. Among the films she says she is attached to are “The Key to the Street”, from a script written years ago by Christopher Nolan, “In With The Outlaws”, a western/comedy co-starring Gabriel Byrne and Timothy Spall, Michael Winterbottom’s “London Fields”, and separate biopics of Marianne Faithfull and Courtney Love. Phew!
Arterton is currently on the West End stage in “The Master Builder” and will then begrudgingly do that sequel she’s contractually obligated to do, “Wrath of the Titans”. Garfield is in the heart of shooting “Spider-Man” and has never hinted at what, if any, projects he might take on after. Due to our personal bias, we hope “Capa” can get off the ground with Garfield and Arterton, but we’ll be taking this one with a giant grain of salt.

“Every so often, a movie comes along with performances that set the standard for a generation of actors. The Social Network combines a theme that defines our time with performances that redefine acting for the screen. The Social Network is important not because it is about this current moment in history, but because the human motivations of the characters make it a parable for this or any age.
